While the attacking trio of Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah has worked wonders for Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool so far, questions do remain about what happens if one of them gets seriously injured.
Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri have provided adequate backup for them in the past, and the recent acquisition of Takumi Minamino added some extra depth in the attack, but they have yet to prove they could be long-term solutions if the need arose.
That’s why it isn’t entirely surprising to see Liverpool linked with young forwards here and there, such as Ferran Torres.
The young Spaniard has been a regular at Valencia for some time now despite only being 20 years old, and his precocious performances have caught the eye of many clubs around Europe.
Juventus are one of them, and Corriere dello Sport cover the competition the Serie A side might face should they try and make a move for Torres this summer.
The Spaniard’s other suitors include Liverpool, Manchester City, Atlético Madrid and Barcelona, with the latter stated to be the favourites for the time being.
They’re all said to be ‘on his trail’, and with a contract expiring in June 2021, it’s unlikely the €100m release clause in his deal would need to be activated in order to convince Valencia to sell, as they know they could lose him on a free in just over 12 months time.
He has, so far, rejected contract renewal offers, but the prospect of him extending hasn’t been entirely ruled out either.
It seems he’s just playing the field for now, and Liverpool are among those circling and keeping an eye on the situation.
