Denis Zakaria has been one of the standout players for Borussia Mönchengladbach this season and it’s no surprise that his performances have drawn attention from top European clubs.
According to Sky in Germany, Manchester United and Bayern Munich in particular, ‘show great interest’ in the defensive midfielder.
Although the Bavarian club are interested in the player, the report adds the Red Devils are considered to be ‘favourites’ to acquire the 23-year-old’s services.
The Switzerland international’s contract with his current employer lasts until 2022 and Mönchengladbach have been reportedly trying to tie down his long-term future to the club.
However, a renewal remains doubtful because Sky claims it’s unlikely that Zakaria, who is ‘one of the great discoveries of this Bundesliga season’, continues with the German side beyond this season.
This could come as a welcome boost for potential suitors, including Manchester United.
Zakaria prefers the defensive midfield role, but Mönchengladbach manager Marco Rose has used him as a centre-back on a few occasions this season.
With United leading the race for Zakaria, his potential addition could see him become a long-term successor for Nemanja Matić at Old Trafford.
