Earlier this month, Jorginho’s agent gave an interview to TuttoMercatoWeb and he opened the door for the Chelsea midfielder to join Juventus.
On February 7th, we carried a report from Corriere dello Sport, who explained the Turin club view the Italy international as an ‘achievable’ transfer target.
Il Bianconero is a website focusing on Juventus and they give a background on how a move for Jorginho could have materialised last summer.
Miralem Pjanić is one of the key players for Maurizio Sarri, but the Bosnian has been attracting interest from top European clubs over the years.
There were various reports talking about Pjanić’s potential exit last summer and Jorginho was Sarri’s first choice target to replace him.
Jorginho followed Sarri from Napoli to Stamford Bridge in 2018 and a year later, through his agent, he gave his willingness to negotiate a return to Italy. Chelsea were looking for a fee of over €50m.
Frank Lampard’s side had a transfer ban then and despite knowing they couldn’t bring in a replacement, the Europa League winners were willing to sanction a move, if they received an irresistible offer.
However, Pjanić ended up staying at Juventus and the Italian champions didn’t make an approach for Jorginho. Therefore, they ended talks.
However, the report adds, it’s not closed or forgotten now, meaning Juve could come back for Jorginho later in the summer.
