Over the past couple of days, reports from Belgian explained Sheffield United have reignited their interest in Sander Berge after failing to land him last summer.
The Blades’ initial offer of €20m for the midfielder was turned down by Genk and Het Laatste Nieuws reported on Wednesday explained the Premier League side are ‘planning a new and improved bid’.
Later that day, Het Belang van Limburg reported the 21-year-old is no longer reluctant to leave his current employer.
HLN now state it’s clear the Norway international wants out before the Friday. In addition to this, Chris Wilder’s side have ‘substantially increased’ their offer and it varies between €20-25m.
As it stands, the payment that’s to be made up front has been agreed upon and the two clubs are discussing criteria for bonuses and percentage of a future sale.
Berge’s entourage hopes the deal is completed quickly as there was an agreement between Sheffield United and Genk in the summer.
For now, the player’s head is ‘already in Sheffield’ and with Genk willing to do business, the deal should go through, unless there are last minute surprises.
