On January 27th, Super Deporte reported Valencia president Anil Murthy was in Barcelona to intensify negotiations for Rodrigo’s transfer to the Camp Nou.

Sport now echoes the same claims and adds Murthy met with the Catalan club’s leaders on Saturday, in the presence of super-agent Jorge Mendes, who is the trusted adviser of Valencia owner Peter Lim.

According to the newspaper, the talks should lead to an agreement for the forward to join Barca on loan until the end of June. As part of the deal, there’ll be a mandatory purchase option for €55m in the summer.

The Spanish champions want to be more cautious and therefore, will only make the purchase option mandatory if certain conditions are met. These conditions will include Rodrigo’s individual performances and also Barca’s collective results.

Sport adds the upcoming transfer deadline can be an obstacle for Barcelona and they want to know whether or not the operation to sign Rodrigo will go through and if not, Quique Setién’s side will then activate plan B if they need to.

For now, ‘everything indicates’ Rodrigo will be a Barcelona player, but the conditions to make transfer permanent remains the ‘key element’ of the operation.

Marca now report Rodrigo was absent from Valencia training on Tuesday morning, which suggests a transfer is closing in.
