Losing Luis Suarez for the next four to five months to a knee injury, Barcelona need some sort of striker reinforcement in January.
The arrival of Quique Setien as their new manager has seen the club turn their attention to Valencia’s Rodrigo, who aren’t exactly thrilled at the idea of letting him leave.
If they do, they want as much money as possible, and have already turned down two different offers from the La Liga champions.
Valencia want to ensure they walk away with the €60m they value their forward at, and it appears Barcelona are now working in that direction.
Superdeporte report on Monday that talks have started up once more between the two sides, and January 27th could be an important day for the talks.
Negotiations are under way for the transfer, and they even claim that Anil Murthy, Valencia’s president, is currently in Barcelona to try and get things done sooner rather than later.
Rodrigo has had a fairly poor first half of the campaign by his standards, scoring just two goals in 18 La Liga appearances, albeit managing to tee up his teammates for another eight along the way.
