While Brighton & Hove Albion haven’t set the world alight under Graham Potter this season, they have done well enough to avoid the relegation zone so far, currently sitting in 14th after 22 games, three points above 18th placed Aston Villa.
A big part of this has been Neal Maupay’s ability to find the back of the net, as the Frenchman has proved decisive in a few games, notably the 3-2 and 2-1 wins over Everton and Arsenal respectively.
Brighton paid a hefty fee (around £20m) for these services over the summer, and he’s repaid their faith in him adequately so far, but his performances haven’t gone unnoticed elsewhere.
According to Fabio Santini, an Italian journalist talking on the TV station 7 Gold, the Frenchman has attracted attention from Napoli in Serie A.
He said, relayed by AreaNapoli: “Napoli are also moving in the transfer window for arrivals. The club has already enquired with Brighton about Neal Maupay. He’s a player followed by half of Europe.”
It’s not said whether this interest is for the January transfer window or this summer, but the latter seems to be the likeliest option, as we can’t see Graham Potter letting his top scorer leave midway through his first Premier League campaign.
There’s not much in this for now, but we’ll keep it in the archives going forward just in case it decides to pick up some pace in the next weeks or months.
