Anwar El Ghazi is living his dream, playing in the Premier League for Aston Villa.
His career has been something of a rollercoaster, yet he’s still only 24 years of age and things have been falling into place for him more recently.
After breaking into Ajax’s first team, much was expected of the attacker. He moved on to Lille in 2017, and has explained to De Telegraaf that if he lived it all again he’d have stayed with the Dutch club for longer.
The Lille experience appears to have been difficult for the footballer, yet it’s got him to a place he wants to be, even if it’s not one of the biggest clubs in the world.
El Ghazi told the Dutch newspaper: “I came out of the Lille period very well and now live my dream: to play in the Premier League. Of course everyone hopes for FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, but the Premier League has always been my dream. Via a detour, one step back and two steps forward, I achieved that nicely.”
Initially moving to Aston Villa when the club was in the Championship, El Ghazi took a gamble and must have had confidence it would lead him to England’s premier football division.
He still has ambitions and has plenty of time to achieve them. Fortunately, life in the Premier League isn’t going too badly, with four goals and four assists over 19 appearances so far.
