Watford defender Dimitri Foulquier is set to return to Granada, with an announcement on the deal imminent.
That’s according to Ideal, who say that the Spanish club have agreed to a loan deal with Watford for the right-back.
Foulquier initially joined Watford from Granada back in 2017 but has spent the last two years out on loan from Vicarage Road.
He was linked with a move away again during the summer transfer window, but Watford blocked it, instead keeping him as a squad player this season.
Ideal report that Granada have reached an agreement with Watford chairman Gino Pozzo for Foulquier to move to the club on loan, with a purchase option included.
An announcement on the deal is expected ‘imminently’, and the player will arrive in Spain next week to be presented as a Granada player. He is already looking for somewhere to live in the area.
Granada had to compete with Nantes for Foulquier, with the French side offering €2m for a permanent transfer.
However, the player’s desire to return to his former club eliminated Nantes from the equation and led Watford to find an agreement with Granada.
They had initially offered €1m for a transfer and have increased that ‘slightly’ to convince Watford to sanction the deal. Like Nantes, they had offered Foulquier a three-year deal.
An unnamed Spanish club also became interested in the defender late on, but he made it clear he wanted a return to his former club after a disappointing spell with Watford.
