On December 11th, ESPN’s Spanish edition claimed Southampton are one of the clubs who have showed interest in Barcelona’s Jean-Clair Todibo.
Today’s edition of Catalan newspaper Sport talks about the Saints and adds that Everton have joined Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side and other clubs in chasing the centre-back.
It’s claimed Everton and Southampton have ‘entered very strong’ for the Frenchman and the La Liga winners are convinced they could raise €20m from the player’s sale.
The Catalan newspaper explains the defender has ‘serious options’ to leave the Camp Nou in January and it’s already been communicated to the 19-year-old by the club’s technical leaders.
Barca’s idea is to sell Todibo in the winter market and include a buyback option as part of the deal. The player, on the other hand, wants to continue with the Spanish champions even though he’s had limited playing time.
However, Mundo states ‘Despite the reluctance, Todibo is clear that he could improve his economic conditions if he agrees to leave now and everything goes through squaring the numbers so that all parties can benefit.’
If Everton or Southampton are to sign Todibo, they will need to meet Barcelona’s conditions (inclusion of buyback option(, and, seemingly, also tempt the player.
