Spain manager Julen Lopetegui hasn’t picked Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas in a squad since he took over the job from Vicente del Bosque.
There had been an assumption that Fabregas was out of the Spain squad because he hasn’t been getting enough minutes at Chelsea under Conte. However, Lopetegui picked Isco, who has amassed a total of 57 minutes for Real Madrid in La Liga this season.
Now Lopetegui says not picking the Chelsea player isn’t simply down to minutes, quoted by AS saying: “He has played a little, not much, but it is a decision for another reason. We like him, but not all can come.”
Whilst Fabregas may not have much of an argument to put up, former Chelsea player Juan Mata may well feel he should be in the squad ahead of Isco. Mata has started 4 Premier League games, and come on as a substittue in a fifth, scoring two goals and getting an assist.
