Liverpool midfielder Pedro Chirivella has revealed he wants to leave the club in January, having come close to departing in the summer transfer window.
The young Spaniard has been at Anfield since 2013 when he joined the club’s youth ranks from Valencia U19.
However, he is yet to break into the Liverpool first team, having made just seven senior appearances since his arrival at the club.
This season has seen him feature in the Carabao Cup, playing 36 minutes in total, including a recent appearance in the 5-5 thriller with Arsenal earlier this week.
Chirivella’s time at Liverpool has instead primarily been spent out on loan, with him heading to Go Ahead Eagles, Willem II and Extremadura in recent years.
He’s now eyeing up a permanent return to Spain as soon as possible as he looks to kickstart a career which has somewhat stalled at the age of 22.
“I have had two or three windows where I was about to leave,” he told Marca.
“Or that I get to leave, but that by other people’s circumstances I just can’t enjoy minutes where I want, which is in Spain.
“The same thing happened a little this summer; I was close to going to Spain again, but due to circumstances the club decided that I had to stay again.
“And I loved every time I had the opportunity. But you have to be realistic; the opportunities are not continuous due to the players at the club.
“Yes, I would like to find a solution in January and return to Spain. And if not, we would look to next summer to return to Spain definitely.”
