Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has come out of retirement to participate in a Futsal tournament in India.
Premier Futsal announced the signing of Scholes, who last played in 2013 for Manchester United.
The tournament is backed by Indian star Virat Kohli and Portuguese legend Luis Figo, who is also the president of the league, helping to give it a little more recognition.
The Manchester United legend joins Deco and Futsal legend Falcao, not the Premier League flop, who is also set to be a part of the tournament.
Premier Futsal is a 5-a-side tournament with two halves of 20 minutes, and will be played in eight cities in India between July 15th to July 24th 2016.
There is no word yet on the length of Scholes’ contract, whilst Deco has signed a three-year deal.
This has been officially announced by the organisers of the competition and so would leave them with egg on their face if it’s not completely true.
Update: Premier Futsal have announced Scholes is on a three year contract, and quote the player as saying: “Futsal is a fascinating format that has played a pivotal role in developing the skills of some of the greatest football players. I have seen Futsal grow not just back home, but also across the world and I have played in a few of those tournaments. Premier Futsal will be a great way to introduce the sport to India and I’m looking forward to meeting the fans across India who I know are some of the most passionate in the world.”
