A couple of months ago, we covered an interesting story from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo which said Everton were interested in two Benfica youngsters.
The report claimed that the Toffees had been following Pedro Álvaro and Nuno Tavares, watching the duo playing for the Eagles’ academy, since they were not part of the first team yet.
Now as reported by newspaper Record, Everton sent scouts to the Estádio da Luz on Wednesday, where they watched Benfica playing Anderlecht in a friendly.
And it turns out that among the 29 players used by the Portuguese side in the match were Pedro Álvaro and Nuno Tavares.
Record doesn’t specifically say who were Everton watching, but it doesn’t take a genius to guess they wanted to see the young duo, since this is one of the few chances to watch them alongside the big boys.
It still not confirmed if Alvares and Tavares will be part of the first team squad this season, as they should be evaluated by manager Bruno Lage during the pre-season.
But the more they play, the more expensive they get.
