Rodri to Manchester City is very, very close.

Sport report the Premier League champions have already deposited the player’s €70m release clause, which means he’s no longer an Atletico Madrid player by ownership.

The player’s representatives travelled to La Liga’s offices this morning to go through the process of paying the money, something Sport clearly believe has happened.

Often when a club is set to pay a player’s release clause in Spain, they don’t actually pay the clause by force. An agreement is often made so it’s more amicable and good natured, this time Atletico clearly haven’t been up for that.

Sport say there was no possibility of negotiating with Atletico, so City had to do things the hostile way.

Diego Simeone is said to have worked until the last minute to convince his midfielder that he’d be better staying at the Madrid club, but he had his heart set on a move to Manchester City and playing for Pep Guardiola.
