Sport have now given a reason, or an excuse, for why they wouldn’t shut up about Jasper Cillessen moving to Everton, despite it no making a great deal of sense… or any sense at all.
Marco Silva has Jordan Pickford as his first choice goalkeeper and the England international will be provided with more competition with the arrival of summer signing Jonas Lössl. Maarten Stekelenburg is also another option for the former Watford manager.
Sport now states the Netherlands international ‘received interest’ from the Toffees in the first week of June and he was also ‘attracted’ towards the Premier League side’s project.
Due to the good relations between two clubs, a deal could have been agreed for €20m, but Cillessen had to wait for other movements to join Everton.
Sport are of the belief that Pickford could have moved to Manchester United if David de Gea left Old Trafford for Paris Saint-Germain (or any other club).
They further go on to stress that Barca were informed about the situation, but the La Liga winners became impatient with Everton, as they were running out of time to cut ties with the Dutchman.
Cillessen is now expected to join Valencia and Neto will move in the opposite direction as part of the deal.
Likely story.
