It’s been a hectic few weeks on and off the pitch for Paris Saint Germain. Amid talk of Neymar wanting out, Mbappe questioning his future and sweeping staff changes, they’ve had a lot to deal with.
One of those changes saw the departure of their sporting director, Antero Henrique, who was then replaced by Leonardo.
Leonardo has seemingly set about arranging the Ligue 1 champions’ summer transfer window and among that is finding a new defensive midfielder.
The position has been a problem one for the club for several years and was not fixed by the arrival of Leandro Paredes back in January.
Leonardo is hoping to fix that but has shifted the club’s focus, according to France Football. His predecessor was interested in Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele, but that’s no longer the case. Instead, Leonardo has turned his attention to Chelsea’s Tiemoue Bakayoko.
The midfielder spent this season on loan at AC Milan where, after a slow start, he quickly became a key player. Indeed, there was talk of a permanent move before a public falling out with Gennaro Gattuso scuppered that.
The Frenchman is on his way back to Chelsea, but PSG’s newfound interest could stop that being a long-term return. And, earlier this month, he hinted strongly that he’d love nothing more than to be rocking up at the Parc des Princes for ‘the club of his heart’.
“Yes, for sure, one day I would like to play in Paris, I cannot lie about it. It’s big for me and my loved ones. We are real Parisians,” he told L’Equipe.
Those comments from Bakayoko were more than a nudge and, with interest in the move now being reciprocated by PSG, this move seems very possible.
