Over the weekend, we relayed news from Italy that newly appointed Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri does not want Joao Cancelo at the club purely for tactical reasons.
Manchester City and Manchester United have been linked with the right-back, and according to Calciomercato, the Turin club’s sporting director Fabio Paratici held talks with the Red Devils to find out the formula to bring Paul Pogba back to the club, which is why the Portugal international was mentioned.
However, it’s the Premier League winners who are ahead in the race to sign the defender, with new contacts taking place between the two sides yesterday.
It’s stated an agreement was reached between all parties and there is growing optimism at the Etihad, as the message filtering out of City when it comes to Cancelo is: “We’ll take him”.
The deal is still not done yet, with other matters needing to be resolved, including Danilo’s exit from City, which would then allow room for the 25-year-old in the squad.
In addition to this, City still have to find an agreement with the Old Lady.
With one eye on the FFP regulations, the domestic treble winners are unwilling to spend above a €50m fixed price plus bonuses for Cancelo and there is a belief they can convince Juventus to sanction the transfer.
There is a growing feeling the deal can be ‘closed’ in a short period of time as Cancelo’s future now lies away from Serie A.
