Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi was linked with a move to Arsenal during the summer transfer window, after the Gunners failed to sign Jamie Vardy.
Icardi is reportedly negotiating a new contract with Inter, and a deal could be agreed soon.
The 23-year-old has been speaking to Italian media outlet Premium Sport (via Calciomercato) and confirmed contract negotiations, adding that ‘everything is in place’.
The Argentine striker explained: “Contract renewal? I talked to the team, everything is in place. I’m calm.”
It’s too early to say if Arsenal will revive their interest in future transfer windows, but Inter are likely to demand a huge transfer fee for their captain.
Icardi already has three goals in three games this season, and the Inter captain will be hoping to continue his impressive form.
Represented by his wife Wanda Nara, transfer reports were encouraged during the summer as the pair looked to secure a new Inter contract. It got so dramatic that Nara managed to create a soap opera, which very nearly led to her husband being stripped of the captaincy.
Given the dynamics, it was always hard to believe Arsene Wenger would look positively on the situation.
