On Wednesday evening, Liverpool will face Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions league tie.
The match at Anfield finished 0-0 and whilst Jurgen Klopp would certainly prefer to be taking a lead to Germany, he’ll be thankful there’s no away goals for Bayern.
Should the Premier League team score first then it will present serious problems for Niko Kovac’s side, and mounting pressure in the stadium.
First for Kovac is picking the team to face the Reds, and there’s been repeat reports from Bild over various questions within it. The biggest doubt is who plays on the left wing, and that’s between Franck Ribery and Kingsley Coman.
The latter trained for the first time on Monday after coming back from injury, whereas Ribery got three assists at the weekend in a 6-0 victory over Wolfsburg.
Bild say that ‘after a conversation’ with Kovac in training on Monday, Ribery looked ‘not very pleased’, and they suggest that could be a hint he’s been told he’ll be on the bench.
There’s also a suggestion Bayern could be more attacking, with Bild quoting Joshua Kimmich, who is on a yellow card enforced ban, as saying: “I expect something braver than in Liverpool.”
Robert Lewandowski missed main training on Monday, doing weights instead, and Bild say that was likely down to ‘stress control’.
To replace Kimmich, it’s thought Rafinha will be on the right of defence. David Alaba has recovered from an injury issue.
Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels were the central defenders against Wolfsburg, but Bild believe Niklas Süle lining up with Hummels is the ‘most likely’ solution for the Liverpool match.
It’s stated that would require Javi Martinez to play just in front, which could see Leon Goretzka on the bench.
