As Rio Ave apparently still don’t have a response to Reading’s offer to take manager José Gomes, the subject continues be brought up during press conferences at the club.

The boss was once again asked after the match against Sporting this Wednesday, and one more time, has claimed that the decision now belongs to the club, not to him.

“For my part, I keep what I said. I was a few years out of the country and those who opened the doors for me to return were the club that I proudly represent with great satisfaction,” José Gomes said in a press conference (via Mais Futebol).

“I am happy in Vila do Conde, I like the project and I go early to the club every day to the club with great joy and willingness to work. So I passed that decision, from the first second they approached me, to the people who invited me and who trusted me. It remains exactly the same. I’m focused on what I have in hand, which is the Rio Ave project, I’m very happy here.”

This Wednesday, O Jogo brought their last update on the situation. They’ve claimed that Reading offered €1m to sign José Gomes, and were waiting for a response from Rio Ave, who would give it in ‘the next few hours’.

However, things went on normally at the Portuguese club, who don’t seem in a hurry to let the manager go.

The job at the Royals has already been rejected some days ago by Luís Castro, who preferred to stay at Vitória Guimarães instead.
