Just like several other Premier League clubs, Manchester City have been endlessly linked with Alex Sandro, regardless of whether the club have had a need to sign him.
Bringing in Benjamin Mendy should have killed the rumour, but it didn’t and the Frenchman’s situation perhaps isn’t as secure as it once was.
Currently out with an injury issue again, the absences have been piling up for the left back. Fabian Delph has been standing in without too much trouble but should there be doubt around Mendy’s future then it’s unlikely the Englishman would be seen as a permanent option.
Last week, former City player Elano shared some information on Mendy which was certainly interesting. The Brazilian has been training to be a coach and as part of that he’s spent some time at his former club.
That time coincided with Mendy turning up late for training due to watching boxing the previous evening.
Elano saw the subsequent exchange, and revealed: “Guardiola said to him: Cool, you were in London watching a boxing match. Go home to study boxing. You have morning training, What were you doing in London?
“The guy stayed home. Sent the guy home. He said: Stay studying boxing for a week, then you come back.”
Being kept away from training for a week, and not through injury, isn’t a great sign.
So, back to Sandro.
Tuttosport say Manchester City are continuing to court the player, and despite the announcement of a contract renewal thought to be days away, a transfer isn’t ruled out.
The Turin newspaper believe that a big offer from the Premier League could change everything.
Whereas once it seemed absurd to think of City having a serious interest, now the transfer doesn’t seem quite as unlikely… dependent on how Guardiola now sees Mendy.
