Fotomac claim Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is still interested in signing Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel.

The former Liverpool defender was linked with a move to Rangers during the summer transfer window, but a move never materialised, partly because of the Slovakian’s current wages.

At the time the Ibrox club had just lost David Bates to Hamburg on a free transfer and Bruno Alves was on the verge of leaving.

According to Fotomac, Gerrard is still following Skrtel very closely and could make a move for him in January.

Skrtel’s contract with Fenerbahce is set to expire next summer and Rangers could take advantage of the situation. Due to his contract situation the SPL club will be able to speak to the Slovakia international in the new year with regards to a pre-contract agreement.

However, the 33-year old is still seen as a key player at Fenerbahce and it’s likely the Turkish club will do everything they can to extend his contract.

Skrtel has played 15 games for Fenerbahce in all competitions so far this season.
