Last Friday, Watford confirmed what the Brazilian press had been saying for weeks.
The Hornets have reached an agreement with Fluminense for the transfer of João Pedro, and the youngster should move to London in 2020, when he turns 18.
The local media has obviously covered Fluminense’s sale, and even though none of the outlets managed to find out how much Watford are paying for the player, there are some interesting details about the transaction.
Website UOL claims that the talks only advanced once the Brazilian side settled the debt they had with Udinese. They owed R$6m for the transfer of Marquinho, and were reported to FIFA because of this.
It’s reported that Fluminense have the right of 10% of Watford’s profit in case they sell João Pedro in the future. Although the initial contract says he moves in January 2020, the clubs may negotiate for him to stay in Brazil until the summer of that year.
