Maurizio Sarri is a very pragmatic manager, in that he’s not going to let emotions and pride see him fall out with his club, especially if he’s just arrived, if it would be better to let things slide.
In a recent interview with Corriere dello Sport, the Italian made it clear he isn’t in charge of transfers at Chelsea and will simply work with the players he has available.
Pressed repeatedly on wanting to sign Gonzalo Higuain during the summer window, Sarri made it clear he’s a huge fan of the now AC Milan player, but wouldn’t provide any controversial quotes about Chelsea not backing him.
For Higuan himself, it’s quite another scenario.
Not for the first time the striker has explained he didn’t sign for Chelsea because the club didn’t seem to really want him, unlike Sarri.
As part of a big interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the Argentina striker said: “There was a fundamental difference: everyone here (AC Milan) wanted me, from the club to the coach. Only the coach wanted me at Chelsea.”
Sarri has started the season well with Chelsea but there are still question marks over the strikers he has available, with Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata leaving too much of the burden to Eden Hazard.
Gonzalo Higuain has scored four goals in five Serie A matches so far this season.
