Earlier on Monday, we relayed the news that Marko Arnautovic had been sent back to West Ham from the Austria squad because of a ‘knee injury’.
If that wasn’t already bad enough, the Hammers could also be without Arthur Masuaku, as the defender has also returned to London after picking up an injury on international duty with DR Congo.
Picking up his first ever cap in a 2-1 loss to Zimbabwe, the 24-year-old left the pitch in 82nd minute, and didn’t take part in the subsequent training session.
Digital Congo are reporting on Monday that Masuaku left the squad shortly after the team arrived in Zimbabwe for the second game at around 3am.
The defender returned to the national team this month after leaving it last March, when the defender was reported as having ‘sulked and asked to leave’ with the likes of Jordan Ikoko and Gael Kakuta.
DR Congo’s FA then explained their players had ‘deplored certain aspects of the organisation’, and were being held ‘accountable’ for their actions.
It seemed that problem has since been resolved, but now Masuaku will have to wait until November 15th to wear the country’s shirt again.
The nature of the injury wasn’t revealed.
