Barcelona are planning for the future and their technical secretary Eric Abidal has set his sights on further strengthening his side’s strike force following Luis Suarez’s struggles.
Monday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Sport claims that Ernesto Valverde’s side are looking to bring in a player who fits their two requirements.
The first criteria is that the player must be young and proven and not non-EU because the quota of three players has already been filled by Arthur, Malcom and Arturo Vidal’s arrival in the summer.
This is when the report mentions Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane, who has been the standout player for the north London club and England over the last few years.
His age and profile would ‘fit perfectly’ for the La Liga winners, but to complete the operation, the second criteria will not be met and that is the cost of the operation. It’s well known in Spain that Spurs aren’t to be messed with, and that fear rules this one out for Barca.
Kane’s contract with Tottenham runs until 2024 and any approach from Barcelona in signing him will see them spend big, which is why the deal to complete his signing is ‘unfeasible’ and therefore, they are looking for other ‘affordable’ options.
