During the international break, managers worry about their players picking up injuries. There are often muscle pulls with already overworked footballers flying around the world and playing further games in different systems.
It’s not so often that illness is a worry, but that’s the situation with Macedonia at the moment. The country’s national team training has been cancelled on Friday despite them having a UEFA Nations League match against Lichtenstein on Saturday.
There’s a stomach virus going through the squad, reports Macedonia’s Sport Media, and four players have already been hit, and they’re out.
The big panic now, and the concern for Leeds United, is the illness spreading as it has done so far. Macedonia’s star player is Ezgjan Alioski, and the attacker has also been important for Marcelo Bielsa so far this season.
Cancelling training is a big step and it shows just how worried Macedonia will be about Alioski and others catching the bug.
Leeds United’s next match is away to Blackburn Rovers on October 20th.
