Two days ago, Toby Alderweireld admitted that he is not working on extending his contract at Tottenham Hotspur.
His deal at the north London club runs down in 2019 and Tottenham have the option of further extending his deal by one more year and should they do that, there’s reportedly a release clause for the Belgian.
After the defender’s latest comments, Calciomercato.it claims the former Southampton man could draw attention of top Serie A clubs for next summer as Juventus, Inter Milan, Napoli and AS Roma are on ‘alert’.
He will turn 30 in March, but his international experience with Belgium is likely to make him a valuable addition to any of the above mentioned sides, and it’s claimed he’s set to ‘ignite the market’.
Andrea Barzagli (37) and Giorgio Chiellini (34) getting on a bit, and Medhi Benatia’s contractual situation with the Old Lady could force the Turin club to strengthen their defence, while the Nerrazzurri have Miranda and Andrea Ranocchia, who will be free agents at the end of this season.
Juve and Inter could make an attempt for Alderweireld, while the two could also face competition from Carlo Ancelotti’s side and Roma for the Tottenham player’s signature.
That’s the Italian perspective and there’s likely to be interest from elsewhere too.
