Toby Alderweireld was one of the integral members of Belgium’s defence at the 2018 World Cup, where they finished third.

His form for his country and his contract situation at Tottenham Hotspur saw him being linked with a move away from the north London club, but no deal took shape and the former Atletico Madrid man was forced to continue with Mauricio Pochettino’s side, with whom his current deal runs down after the end of the season.

The Premier League club have an option to further extending the player’s contract by one more year and should they do it, a reported release clause in his contract will be activated.

He is currently on international duty with De Rode Duivels for the international matches against Switzerland ad Netherlands this month.

Alderweireld attended the press conference on Wednesday and he was asked about he was asked about his contract situation at Spurs, which has been relayed by Het Nieuwsblad.

He said, “Honestly, I am absolutely not working on it at the moment. I feel good, play everything right now and am therefore satisfied. We shall see.”
