If there’s a current footballer who unites the divided masses then it’s David Silva.
The Manchester City star has been a joy to watch in the Premier League for years and even supporters of opposing clubs can’t fail to notice his talent and contribution for Pep Guardiola’s team.
Of course, Silva was around before Guardiola and he may be there when the former Barcelona manager leaves. Much as Pep will have a place in Manchester City’s history, so will his fellow Spaniard.
At times it’s felt like Silva went under-appreciated in Spain, that he wasn’t getting the praise he would if he’d been at Barcelona or Real Madrid. To a certain extent that’s still the case but over the past year or so the number of articles praising the City player have increased, and there’s one in Wednesday’s edition of Marca.
The Spanish newspaper goes over Silva’s performance against Hoffenheim, and then tellingly adds: ‘Without De Bruyne – still out due to injury although he has already returned to training with the squad, Silva has continued to lead Manchester City.’
They have a clear idea who the real key man is.
Marca state that Silva won’t have to fulfil his contract to be regarded ‘a true legend’ at his current club, and they explain he’s a ‘symbol’ for City.
