It had been a while, but the Gazzetta dello Sport percentages for the transfer window have returned, and there’s only a 40% chance of Matteo Darmian staying at Old Trafford beyond January.
The Manchester United full-back is a target for two Serie A sides now, with both Roma and Napoli said to have a 30% chance of landing the 28-year-old, who has been left to one side by José Mourinho this season more often than not.
However, in order to get a move away back to Italy, the defender will need a few things to go his way, including his current manager agreeing to sell him.
That doesn’t seem likely in January, but if by some miracle it did happen, then he’d also have to wait for Roma to get rid of Bruno Peres, which isn’t a guarantee in itself.
And just in case you didn’t believe the Roma rumour, Il Messaggero have a brief update, claiming Manchester United will only let him go on a full transfer, not on loan.
As for Napoli, they are included in this whole percentage pie chart, yet there’s no expansion on their interest, with Sime Vrsaljko remaining their favourite and a hint they might still go for him in the summer, which would render the desire to bring Darmian (their backup option) void since they don’t need two new full-backs.
Make of those percentages what you will, but logic would state that if he’s got a 30% chance of going to Napoli and a 30% chance of going to Roma, then there’s a 60% chance of a transfer, right?
We just tend see them as numbers plucked out of thin air, but they always make for an interesting read.
