With West Ham United today announcing the signing of Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras, ESPN Brasil now features an interesting story on what had been happening behind the scenes.

According to journalist João Castelo-Branco, the youngster had been in touch with players from the Hammers long before agreeing the deal with his new club.

It’s said Luis Guilherme used Instagram to speak to Emerson Palmieri, who gave him tips and advised him to join West Ham this summer.

The youngster also got in touch with Lucas Paquetá and Luizão, with them both helping to get the deal done.

ESPN Brasil also writes that West Ham director Tim Steidten travelled to Brazil twice to speak to Luis Guilherme’s family about the transfer. He also had former defender Naldo working with him.

The youngster has already visited the Hammers’ facilities, having spoken to Julen Lopetegui, and is ready to start pre-season with his new club.

West Ham are paying Palmeiras €23m for the move, with a potential €7m in bonuses, and the Brazilian club will get 20% of a future transfer.
