On Sunday, the Turkish media reported that Newcastle United had joined the race for Vincent Aboubakar. Futbol Arena claimed that the Magpies have strong interest in the Porto player, and are in advanced talks which could spoil Besiktas’ hopes of having him again next season.
The figures of a deal weren’t mentioned, but Portuguese newspaper A Bola comes up with a story today which should make things clearer for Newcastle fans.
They say Rennes have joined the battle as well, and are in the lead. The French side will be offering €10m for the Porto owned player, something that would put them in front of Besiktas, who can only pay €7m.
The offer from Rennes is good enough for Porto to sell, even though the club only have 37.5% of Aboubakar’s rights.
So in the case Newcastle have more than that to offer, that should be enough. Even a £10m bid would sound better for Porto.
Rafael Benítez’s side are not mentioned in A Bola’s article, so it’s a a rumour that has stayed in Turkey for now. But if you cross the information, Newcastle United have an optimistic scenario.
