Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Steven Alzate has vowed he will be back at his best sooner rather than later as he battles back from long-term injury issues.
The midfielder is currently spending the season on loan with Standard Liege in Belgium, with Brighton electing to send him there to regain his fitness and confidence.
That’s after he spent a chunk of last season out of action, missing 78 days after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury.
It meant he only managed 12 appearances and 660 minutes of action in total for Brighton, a far cry from where he would like to be.
Alzate has been a regular for Standard since arriving, starting three of their last four games and bagging an assist in the 3-1 win over Royal Antwerp.
He is yet to get fully up to speed but promises that will come sooner rather than later, with his recent run of three games a rare occurrence for him.
“It’s been a while since I played three matches in one week,” he told Voetbalkrant.
“That will be a good test for me. I adapt well and help the team as much as possible. I want to provide creativity, provide interplay with the attackers.
“We understand each other well, we are on the same wavelength.
“You’ve already seen glimpses of my ability. I’ll get there. I try to give myself 100% every match. In terms of full fitness and confidence, I’m not there yet.”
