Back in May, we covered claims from Belgium stating that Standard Liege in Belgium were very interested in signing Romaine Mundle on a free from Tottenham.
The 20-year-old’s contract with Spurs expires at the end of June, and while the London club did try and keep him for longer, the player ‘refused to extend’ his stay.
That’s courtesy of Le Soir, relayed by Walfoot, who explain that despite a deal being close with Standard, things have since changed drastically for the Tottenham forward.
Indeed, they point out that ‘everything seemed in order’ for the forward to sign in Belgium, but a ‘last minute offer’ from Utrecht in the Netherlands has made him think twice.
That’s because Mundle ‘would be more interested’ in the idea of moving to the Eredivisie than the Jupiler Pro League.
Should Standard fall short, it’s explained it will likely ‘leave a bitter taste’ in the mouths of the Belgian side’s management, as they had invited the Tottenham man to ‘visit the facilities’ and even attend a game.
Despite being with Spurs from a young age, Mundle never managed to make an appearance for the club’s first-team, although he was named on the bench five times during the Premier League this season.
Perhaps in a bid to keep him around?
