Bologna defender Emil Krafth has been given a chance by Sweden coach Janne Andersson to stake a place in the national team. The 22-year-old has been selected for tonight’s game with Portugal, with Celtic star Mikael Lustig rested.

Andersson has named a totally different team to the one with defeated Belarus last Friday with only captain Andreas Granqvist remaining.

Lustig was one of those who played in the 4-0 victory over Belarus, but like many of his teammates the Celtic star will start from the bench. Krafth will subsequently be able to add to the seven caps already to his name, and after recent comments he wants to remain in the team, ahead of Lustig.

Last week we covered comments Krafth made when he said he was going up against the Celtic player to become Sweden’s first choice right back. The Bologna player said he had qualities which were different to Lustig, but still hoped to learn from his national teammate.

Aftonbladet also think Krafth has an outside chance of retaining his place when Sweden meet France in their next World Cup Qualifier. They say with the injuries Lustig has been picking up the young fullback may get another chance in Sweden’s next game, ahead of the Celtic man.
