Chelsea are set to miss out on the signing of Jean-Matteo Bahoya from Angers SCO, according to reports today.
German outlet Bild claims that Eintracht Frankfurt are about to complete his signing, as he’s about to join them on a contract until 2028.
It’s said that Chelsea ‘recently tried’ to get Bahoya signed, but ‘couldn’t shake that’, with journalist Christian Falk saying he ‘decided against a deal’ with the Blues.
Frankfurt apparently did a good job negotiating with Angers, as it’s said he was ‘quickly convinced’ an the agreement was ‘quickly reached’.
The Bundesliga side are now set to go for their other targets, such as Paris Saint Germain’s Hugo Ekitike.
Eintracht Frankfurt are paying €12m for the player, with €8m of those being immediate, meaning money is unlikely to be the reason why Chelsea lost this race for his signing.
What sounds very likely is that the German side could offer the midfielder some guaranteed playing time this season, while the Blues have a long history of signing several youngsters who rarely have a chance of playing for their first team.
