Manchester City summer signing Oleksandr Zinchenko has revealed Pep Guardiola encouraged him to join PSV in the last window despite only just arriving in England. The 19 year old Ukraine international has joined the Dutch champions in order to get more first team experience.

Speaking to Voetbal International, Zinchenko said he spoke to Guardiola when it became known PSV wanted to sign him on loan for the season. Guardiola told the youngster PSV would always be competing to win the league title, and therefore it would be a good club to join and develop as a player.

The Manchester City boss said he would always be playing in front of full stadiums compared to turning out for the U23s, so a move to Holland would be beneficial at this stage of his career.

“He said PSV always play for first place. This is a good step in my development. Playing for a club like that, always playing for the title, a full stadium,” said the young Ukrainian.

Zinchenko joined Manchester City in the last window after having only one season with his former club Ufa. Despite his age the youngster has already represented his country 7 times, and was part of the squad for the Euros.
