Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed he will be remaining with the German side, and not joining Tottenham.
Marca cover comments from the Leverkusen manager from a press conference today as he plans for a Europa League semi-final second leg clash with Roma.
The Spaniard has been impressing with Leverkusen this season, taking over in October and turning around a poor start to the season to lead them to seventh in the Bundesliga and level on points with Wolfsburg in sixth.
They’re also competing for a place in the Europa League final, two situations that looked unlikely at the start of the season.
They’re still hunting for Antonio Conte’s replacement and had added the Spaniard to their list of potential candidates, although reports in the last 24 hours have claimed he’s pulled out of the race.
That’s something he’s now confirmed, insisting he will remain where he is rather than jumping to Tottenham.
“I am very happy with the team and the club,” Marca report him saying.
“I don’t think anything about my future. I am fully focused on what I want. I have discussed it with everyone who should know about it.”
“Yes, that’s correct,” he added when asked if that meant he’d be staying at Leverkusen.
