Enzo Fernandez’s transfer to Chelsea is about to be complete, according to reports from Argentina.
It’s ESPN journalist Esteban Edul who suddenly came up with a tweet saying the Benfica midfielder is joining the Blues.
“Now yes! Enzo Fernandez is going to play for Chelsea!,” said Edul to his over 150k followers.
Earlier on Tuesday, we had already been pointing out that the Argentine media sounded confident that the talks with Chelsea were very advanced, with multiple reports in the South American country claiming there’d be a decision about the transfer in a couple of days.
The word has been that the Blues would like to trigger Fernandez’s release clause at Benfica, but since they couldn’t afford the €120m, mostly because of the Financial Fair Play, they had been working with the Eagles to split that payment.
Due to a New Year’s trip to Argentina, the midfielder missed a couple of training sessions at the Lisbon side, and that’s why the Portuguese media has been making big noise about it, relating his absence to the negotiations with Chelsea.
Now it seems he may have indeed been forcing his way out, with the transfer seemingly all but done.
