Burnley midfielder Hjalmar Ekdal has revealed that he is one of their ‘Traitors’ as the game continues this year.
Aftonbladet out the 26-year-old today, with him happy to admit that he thinks his Burnley teammates have already worked him out.
For those that don’t know, Traitors is a ‘social deduction reality game’ on the BBC. In it a small group of secretly designated ‘Traitors’ try to eliminate ‘Faithful’ contestants to secure a grand prize.
This sees players participate in missions to earn money for a prize pot. ‘Traitors’ then secretly ‘murder’ a Faithful, who leaves the game. They are also forced to sit at a ‘Round Table’, where Faithfuls try to expose the hidden Traitors.
Burnley have been playing their own since last year, starting at the end of the January transfer window. This was featured in the club’s documentary series Burnley: Keeping the Faith and has continued this season. They even collaborated with The Traitors production team to make it an official Burnley FC special.
It proved to be very popular, so much so that it’s continued this season to help new signings integrate.
Ekdal reveals that’s led to a slightly ‘hostile’ mood in the group, something he thinks will see him voted out quickly.
“I think I’ll be voted out right away,” he is quoted saying, with a sigh.
“Yes, I am… but I would have preferred to be faithful,” he added when asked, directly, if he is a Traitor. Here’s hoping none of his Burnley teammates catch wind.
Ekdal told Aftonbladet that a Danish teammate at Burnley appears to have identified him as a Traitor and is convincing everyone else.
Is this all a bluff via the Swedish media? Only time will tell.
