Alejo Véliz found it difficult to enjoy regular playing time at Tottenham Hotspur in the first half of the season and was allowed to join Sevilla on a loan deal in the winter market.
On Sunday, the La Liga side will face Real Madrid, and ahead of this clash, AS had a chat with the 20-year-old.
The Tottenham owned player has said he will try to enjoy the weekend trip to Santiago Bernabéu.
Earlier claims had stated Los Blancos had interest in the striker, and he was asked whether this was true.
Responding to that, he said: “Yes, it appeared in the press and some time ago my agent told me about interest from Real Madrid, but nothing materialised.
“It was during the South American U20 Championship, I hadn’t been in the first team for long and I wanted to continue playing at Rosario. After the U20 World Cup, too. But I’m a calm guy, I take things patiently and I believe a lot in God, he focuses me on my path and he’s going to give me the best.”
The last edition of the South American U20 Championship took place in January 2023, five months before the U20 World Cup.
Former Sevilla man Bryan Gil is at Spurs and when asked if the Spaniard had convinced him to join the Andalusian club, Véliz explained. “We came during a break. Tottenham gave us a weekend off, I was alone there and Bryan invited me to come. When the possibility came up, I didn’t even hesitate.”
Tottenham took the Argentine from Rosario Central last summer and he signed a contract until 2029. Sevilla don’t have an option to buy him, and it’s not yet clear whether Véliz will extend his stay at the Spanish club beyond this season.
“I don’t know what will happen. If I stay, time will tell. To start with, Sevilla and their fans must be happy with me because I’m delighted to have come here and I hope that many good things will happen,” he added.
The Tottenham man hasn’t yet represented Argentina’s senior team, and says that he has to “work twice as hard if we want to even think about that possibility.”
