Life after Watford has not been easy for Yáser Asprilla, and it’s not getting any better in the short-term either.

Diari de Girona report on the 22-year-old today and the latest blow for him while on loan at Galatasaray.

Yáser Asprilla is currently on loan with Galatasaray after leaving Girona towards the end of the January transfer window.

Girona problems for Yáser Asprilla

He had been struggling at the Spanish club since joining them in an €18m deal from Watford in August 2024. He previously managed seven goals and ten assists in 86 games for the Hornets after arriving for €3m in 2022.

But it didn’t work in Spain, where he’s managed four goals and two assists in 50 games. Galatasaray has gone worse, with no goals or assists in nine games so far.

Girona had been hoping that Galatasaray would sign him permanently in the summer. the loan deal includes an option to buy for €23m. Now, though, Galatasaray are taking it for granted that he’ll return to Spain at the end of the campaign.

That’s been further strengthened by the fact Yáser Asprilla is currently out injured. He has an edema in his knee and has already missed their last game. It’s unclear when he’ll return from the problem.

That’s the latest blow for the player, who simply hasn’t gotten going in Türkiye. Coming after his difficult spell in Girona, it’s another low. His career post Watford simply hasn’t taken off as he or perhaps anyone expected.

Big summer transfer window

The midfielder had been expected to keep rising at Girona after establishing himself at Vicarage Road but now appears to be at a bit of a standstill. This injury won’t help on that front.

A big summer is on the way. Galatasaray don’t want him and Girona probably feel the same. They were certainly happy to ship him out in January and were hoping for a permanent exit as well.

Now they may need to find other suitors as they look to get their money back after spending big to get Yáser Asprilla from Watford two years ago.
