Tottenham Hotspur summer signing Xavi Simons has heaped praise on manager Thomas Frank and the presentation he gave him to convince the midfielder into the move.

Eindhovens Dagblad cover comments from the 22-year-old today made at the Netherlands’ training camp ahead of the international break.

He had an extremely busy summer transfer window after making it clear that he wanted to leave RB Leipzig this year.

He had been with them since joining on loan from Paris Saint Germain in 2023 and there had been an expectation that he would stay for longer when they paid €50m to sign him permanently at the end of the January transfer window.

Instead, he made it clear that he wanted to move on and, after seemingly being close to Chelsea, ended up at Tottenham in a €65m deal instead. That deal was sealed late in the window at the end of August.

He’s the most expensive of eight new signings secured for new manager Thomas Frank this summer and admits that the Danish boss was very impressive when it came to selling Tottenham to him.

“The manager told me a lot,” he said.

“Positive things, but also things I need to improve. It’s fantastic how he sees football, how he wants to make players better. Spurs is the right place for me to develop. And it’s great that he was honest, that he wants to improve things for me.

“I always think the coaches are the most important people to base a decision on. As a player, you see a coach more than your family.

“What needs to be improved? I prefer to keep that to myself, but I heard different things from Thomas Frank than from other coaches in the past. That makes sense. When I went to PSV, I was much younger, so you have to work on different things then than you do now.”
