Denmark’s Tipsbladet bring an interesting deadline day article on Wouter Burger and how a late Stoke City exit has collapsed for the 23-year-old.
Burger has played 31 matches for the Championship club so far this season, clearly a much used member of Mark Robins’ squad.
Tipsbladet say a late deal had been negotiated for the player to sign for FC Midtjylland in what would have been a big deal for the Danish club.
It’s claimed a transfer had been agreed between the two clubs, and that Burger had even undergone a medical in England ahead of the proposed move.
Stoke City are said to have then called off the transfer today. The reason given is that the Championship club were unable to find themselves a replacement for the Dutchman and therefore didn’t want to leave themselves short for the remainder of this season.
Burger has a contract with Stoke City lasting until June 2027 and is represented by the large SEG agency.
There’s no explanation from Tipsbladet about the structure of the failed deal or finances involved.
