Loris Karius’ partner Diletta Leotta has told Gazzetta dello Sport that she’s hopeful the Newcastle United goalkeeper can make a switch to Italy in the winter market.

The interview initially focuses on the couple’s daughter, who was born earlier this year, and how the Italian TV presenter’s life has changed in a good way over the past few months.

When asked how the Newcastle player manages between football in England and family in Italy, she said: “He takes a lot of flights. As soon as he has a day he leaves and even comes for just 24 hours.”

The 30-year-old joined Newcastle in 2020 and has made only one appearance since then, which came during last season’s EFL Cup final loss to Manchester United.

Despite this, the former Liverpool man’s partner has insisted he’s happy at the Tyneside club. She made this claim when asked what happens if an Italian club comes forward to sign Karius in January.

“I hope so. He has another year on his contract and is doing well at Newcastle, but anyone who does this job always has their suitcase packed. I would understand any move, but I hope he can be brought closer,” Leotta explained.

It’s to be noted the German, who last signed an extension in July, has a deal lasting until June 2024.

Earlier this month, Newcastle stopper Nick Pope suffered a serious injury and Eddie Howe has favoured Martin Dúbravka ahead of Karius. The Slovakian has conceded seven goals in the Magpies’ last two games, which both ended in defeat.
