SK Slavia Prague manager Jindřich Trpišovský has opened the door for West Ham United‘s Tomáš Souček to return to the club.
The Czech Republic international is a product of Slavia Prague’s academy and spent six years with their first team until 2020.
He initially joined West Ham on loan in January 2020 and then made his stay permanent later that year.
The midfielder has been a regular in the Hammers’ starting lineup and played 35 Premier League matches this season. On Sunday, the 31-year-old played the full 90 minutes in his side’s 3-0 win over Leeds United.
Despite the win, Nuno Espírito Santo’s side failed to stay in the Premier League, finishing 18th.
The London club could see some of their players, including their starters, leave in the summer. Souček belongs to the latter category and has 13 months left on his contract.
West Ham player has door open for transfer
Jindřich Trpišovský has now talked about the experienced midfielder and iDnes have relayed his comments.
The SK Slavia Prague manager remains confident that Tomáš Souček will return to the club at some point.
However, he isn’t sure about the upcoming window and says the West Ham United player will have to make the final decision.
“I think it’s all about Tomáš. If there was an opportunity, we would like to use it, but there are many options,” he said.
“He still has a year left on his contract in England. I personally think he will come back one day, but we’ll see if it’s this summer. The decision would be mainly up to him.”
Czech likely to leave Hammers
Two months ago, Sport Witness covered claims from the Czech press that his renewal is on hold. The same source reported his salary will drop from €350-390k to €100k a month in case of relegation.
With a drop in salary after their relegation, Tomáš Souček could look for another club in the summer. He won’t be short of options as along with Slavia Prague, other clubs are likely to battle for his signature.
With a contract until 2027, Transfermarkt value him at €12m and the Hammers could ask for a fee around that region to sell him.
