Crystal Palace star Daniel Muñoz has been told to forget about leaving the club this month, especially with the World Cup around the corner.
Former Colombia goalkeeper Óscar Córdoba provides the advice today, via Red Mas. He’s been speaking on RED + NOTICIAS sports program, ‘SÍ ERA GOL’.
Muñoz has been heavily linked with a move away from Crystal Palace for months. That’s thanks to his shining performances under Oliver Glasner since joining from Genk in an €8m deal in January 2024.
Since then, he’s managed 10 goals and 14 assists in 85 games, establishing himself as one of the best wingbacks in Europe. That’s led to plenty of interest too.
Chelsea reportedly made contact a few months ago, while Manchester City were also in the mix. Muñoz, meanwhile, has been open about his desire to join Manchester United.
Crystal Palace are seemingly preparing for him to leave too. Sacha Boey and Zakaria El Ouahdi are seen as potential replacements for the Colombian.
Not the correct time for Crystal Palace exit
Muñoz is currently out with a knee injury, though. That has, for the time being, curbed transfer interest. Córdoba thinks that’s a good thing and believes the 29-year-old needs to put it all to one side entirely.
“Right now, with him having surgery almost a month ago, I think it’s the worst possible time,” he said about a transfer.
“He should come back, play, and get ready for the World Cup. It won’t make much of a difference if he goes to another team right now to fight for his place.
“I have to see him on the field. I know he has good qualities, but he has a World Cup and some friendly matches coming up. His team needs to perform now, tomorrow. Because this is about getting points.
“There’s nothing more to be done, he stays there and needs to start playing.”
