Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak suffered an injury in his side’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The striker came off the pitch and was replaced by Callum Wilson in the 15th minute, and Eddie Howe has admitted his setback was a “blow” for the Magpies.

Former Arsenal midfielder Kim Källström, who’s now an expert for TV4 Play, has raised concerns over the Newcastle star’s fitness, and his quotes are relayed by Fotbollskanalen.

The Sweden international arrived at the Tyneside club in 2022 and a thigh problem kept him on the sidelines for more than three months last season.

An injury forced him to miss this month’s international break, and Källström is of the belief his compatriot’s troubles could are worrying.

“He gets a hitch in the rhythm all the time. He plays little, is injured, plays little, injured. You need to continue for x number of matches to get into a rhythm. It’s not great. It feels a bit worrying,” he said.

It’s worth noting Isak has only missed one Magpies games this season, when he was an unused substitute in Newcastle’s league win over Brentford, so this feels very much from a Sweden perspective.

Former Getafe defender Henok Goitom was also on the expert panel, and he explained why he feels the 24-year-old’s latest setback shouldn’t be serious.

“I was a little worried that it would be a knee, when he put one hand on knee, and then maybe he would have been out for seven or eight weeks if it had been internal ligaments. When they said it’s groin it’s maybe a week or two. I was a little relieved,” Goitom explained, as quoted by Fotbollskanalen.

Isak had recovered from an injury he suffered earlier this month and came off the bench in Newcastle’s league win over Crystal Palace last weekend.

His latest blow would raise concerns over his involvement in the Magpies’ clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

The frontman has scored seven goals from 12 games this season.
